Prognostic Factors Associated with Survival in Breast Cancer After Curative-İntent Radiotherapy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: Prognostic factors affecting mortality after external radiotherapy (RT) in breast cancer (BC) patients are still open to research. This study aims to evaluate survival factors with regional data in patients with BC who received curative-intent RT.
Methods: A single-center retrospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Radiation Oncology in a university hospital. Patients aged 18 years or older, who did not have metastasis and received RT, were included in the study. For the analysis of patient survival data, the Kaplan-Meier method was used, and the comparison of survival times based on categorizable parameters was performed using the Log-rank analysis.
Results: A total of 51 patients were included in the study. The overall survival and disease-specific survival times are 78.2+ months. The overall survival time decreased statistically significantly with the progression of T stage (p=0.038). Patients who did not develop metastases had substantially longer survival compared to those who did (p<0.001). A statistically significant difference was found in the overall survival rates of patients based on their remission and recurrence status (p<0.001).
Conclusion: T stage, presence of metastasis, and hormone therapy are the main factors affecting survival.
